Questions About Therapy

If you’re just getting started with therapy for the first time, you may have some questions.

  • What are your Fees?
My fee for an individual session of 50 minutes is $150. My fee for a couple session of 75 minutes is $200. I do offer a sliding scale; contact me to discuss this if you need a reduced fee.
  • Are your services covered through OHIP?
Psychotherapy is not covered through OHIP, but registered social workers are very often covered by employment benefits. Check your extended health benefits plan to see if you have coverage.
  • How many sessions will I need?
Therapy is tailored to your goals. Some people come with a specific goal which can be resolved in a few sessions while others may want to delve more deeply into childhood or past trauma which may take more time. Combining therapy with other activities such as meditation or “homework” outside of sessions, can be helpful if you are looking for faster change.
  • What is the typical process for couples therapy?
We first meet together for a 75 minute couple session. If you and your partner decide to continue, I meet with each of you for an individual session of 50 minutes - this constitutes the assessment. We then resume meeting together for couples sessions for the duration of the therapy. We meet weekly at first and can move to bi-weekly sessions if appropriate.
  • Do you offer couples therapy to same sex couples?
I have lots of experience providing therapy to same sex couples as well as people from the LGBTQ community.
  • What do I do if my partner does not want to come to therapy?
You can still attend individual sessions to explore the relational pattern and where you may be getting stuck. Change in one partner often changes the relational pattern and can still bring about change in the relationship.
